Emerald Spectacles from India, c. 1620-1660 CE: the lenses of these spectacles were cut from a single 300-carat emerald, and it was believed that they possessed mystical properties
Tumblr media
These eyeglasses are also known by the name "Astaneh-e ferdaws," meaning "Gate of Paradise," based on the symbolic associations between the color green and the concept of spiritual salvation/Paradise. That symbolism (which is rooted in Islamic tradition) was especially popular in Mughal-era India, where the spectacles were made.
Tumblr media
The lenses were crafted from two thin slices of the same emerald. Together, the lenses have a combined weight of about 27 carats, but given the precision, size, and shape of each lens, experts believe that the original emerald likely weighed in excess of 300 carats (more than sixty grams) before it was cleaved down in order to produce the lenses. The emerald was sourced from a mine in Muzo, Colombia, and it was then transported across the Atlantic by Spanish or Portuguese merchants.
Each lens is encircled by a series of rose-cut diamonds, which run along an ornate frame made of gold and silver. The diamond-studded frame was added in the 1890s, when the original prince-nez design was fitted with more modern frames.
Tumblr media
The emerald eyeglasses have long been paired with a second set of spectacles, and they were almost certainly commissioned by the same patron. This second pair is known as "Halqeh-e nur," or the "Halo of Light."
The Halo of Light features lenses that were made from slices of diamond. The diamond lenses were cleaved from a single stone, just like the emerald lenses, with the diamond itself being sourced from a mine in Southern India. It's estimated that the original, uncut diamond would have weighed about 200-300 carats, which would make it one of the largest uncut diamonds ever found.
Tumblr media
The lenses are so clear and so smoothly cut that it sometimes looks like they're not even there.
Both sets of spectacles date back to the mid-1600s, and it's generally believed that they were commissioned by a Mughal emperor or prince. The identity of that person is still a bit of a mystery, but it has been widely speculated that the patron was Shah Jahan -- the Mughal ruler who famously commissioned the Taj Mahal after the death of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan did rule as the Mughal emperor from about 1628 to 1658.
The emerald and diamond lenses may have been chosen for symbolic, sentimental, and/or cultural reasons, or they may have been chosen simply because they're pretty and extravagant; the original meaning and purpose behind the design is still unclear. Experts do believe that the eyeglasses were designed to be worn by someone, though.
At times, it was believed that the spectacles had spiritual properties, like the ability to promote healing, to ward off evil, to impart wisdom, and to bring the wearer closer to enlightenment. Those beliefs are largely based on the spiritual significance that emeralds and diamonds can have within certain Indic and Islamic traditions -- emeralds may be viewed as an emblem of Paradise, salvation, healing, cleansing, and eternal life, while diamonds are similarly associated with enlightenment, wisdom, celestial light, and mysticism.
Tumblr media
The Gate of Paradise and the Halo of Light were both kept in the collections of a wealthy Indian family until 1980, when they were sold to private collectors, and they were then put up for auction once again in 2021. They were most recently valued at about $2 million to $3.4 million per pair.

Christian Dior Spring 2009 Couture Details
I want you to close your eyes and picture the frills on her dress. Picture the fluff, snow-puff, soft diamond-black bowl-dust. The roses wrapped in bleach-soaked rags, stitched, re-cut. I want you to think about the lace-worker and the pianist's blisters. Once the pianist said she couldn't play anymore because of the blisters on her fingers and we all snickered to ourselves because didn't she know there were blisters on our feet under our pointe shoes every day but we always danced and never complained (except when we complained) I always felt bad after that, for snickering. I don't know anything about playing the piano so much that your hands break open. I only know about other ways that the body gives up, bursts like a dam, cracks, splits, chasms, rubs raw, burns, flakes, crusts, sheds off in one piece. I've experimented with all of them. Imagine the tulle on that dress, ten million scraped-off skin cells floating in warm bathwater, making a halo out of her. Imagine what its like to feel your ears plugged with your own dissolved debris as you age fast, plum-like and come down with a case of baby's cheek. Thats what those frills are made of. That kind of silence. It was in the stillness of the air after the pianist folded her hands on her lap and refused to take us any further.

'Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul? I know you will.' - Lana Del Rey, Young and Beautiful

His first engagement gift to her was a white gold ring adorned with a pear cut diamond, huge and sparkling, haloed with tiny amethysts. The band twined prettily like strands of Weave, and engraved on the inside in his own hand were the words: ‘I found divinity in you.’ Tav received it via courier, opening the door in her home just off Heapside Strand to see the poor dragonborn woman obscured by armfuls of blooms: blue irises, red roses, massive clouds of peonies and bright purple anemones, even cascades of delicate wisteria.
‘Someone must absolutely adore you!’ the woman gushed, her copper scales gleaming in the morning light. ‘When you’ve taken all these, love, there’s something else for you. There’s a vase here, too- do you want me to help you arrange these?’
‘Oh! That would be wonderful,’ said Tav. ‘Thank you.’ She backed inside for the lady to pass and spied the vase. It was a work of art; a sculptural piece of rose quartz veined with gold. Bringing it carefully inside, she set it by her reading nook, filled it with water, and watched as the courier carefully arranged them. The sight of them brought her such great joy she wanted to cry.
‘And one more thing. I was told to be incredibly careful with this,’ she said, smiling and reaching into her satchel. She withdrew a small box and an ornate letter on quality parchment. ‘Have a wonderful day!’
‘Bye,’ she said to her retreating back, closing the door slowly behind her. With trembling hands, she opened the letter.
My love, I know I proposed in haste. I had to, in truth. I was so terrified it would all be a dream and I’d wake, and you’d be gone. Not that I don’t trust you, of course. It’s more that you are so beyond even my most audacious dreams that I cannot believe you’re real. I hope you like what I chose for you. White gold for your complexion of course, a diamond for the pure beauty of your soul and the endless love I hold for you, and, if you’ll forgive me a little vanity, amethysts for myself. I would say more here but those things are best said in vows. I hope you like the flowers. I’ll tell you why I chose them, but those things are best said running my fingers through your hair, murmured softly into your waiting ear. I wish I could see your face… not long now. Still, being apart from you is torture. Here’s to eternity. Gale.
‘Oh,’ said Tav, blinking back tears and kissing his name on the parchment. ‘Gale, I adore you.’ She reached for the box and gasped at its contents. The most perfect ring, just as he’d described. It twinkled on her finger like a piece of the astral plane. She curled up in her favourite chair and wept tears of joy, wishing she could hold him.
*
His second gift arrived a week later. Tav opened the door to a cheerful dwarven man holding a sturdy basket in his arms. ‘Hello ma’am,’ he said, eyes twinkling in delight. ‘I’ve a gift for you from Mr Gale Dekarios. He gave me express instructions to deliver his gift to you personally. It’s important it’s opened indoors, in a secure area, and away from any fine furnishings. Ahem. He hopes you enjoy your gift. Blessings, ma’am.’ He handed the basket over and off he went with a cheery wave. Frowning in puzzlement, Tav took it inside and set it down in the kitchen, gingerly lifting the lid. She gasped, astonished. Inside, fast asleep, was a tiny, winged kitten, silver and grey. It had a small, jeweled collar and a letter tucked beneath one dainty paw.
My love, Tara has been my stalwart companion for most of my life. She saved it, in fact, more than once. I cherish her utterly, and I want you to have the same unwavering support when I can’t be there for you. I hope that is a rare occurrence, since if it were not, I fear it would drive me mad to be apart from you for long. Still… this is Calliope. Admittedly she’s only a baby, but I want you to have as much bonding with her as possible. She’ll speak in time. May she be a   comfort to you when I cannot be. Forgive my presumption, I put your name down as Dekarios. Selfishly, it brought me such joy to do so that I wept. Be here. Would that time would speed up, just a little, so I could hold you in my arms. Gale.
The kitten stirred in her basket, stretched and mewed softly. Delicately, Tav drew her into her arms. ‘Hello, Calliope,’ she said, kissing her fuzzy little head. ‘I hope you love your dad as much as I do.’ She stroked her soft wings, cooing to her as she showed her the house. Calliope blinked her golden eyes slowly and pushed her head into Tav’s palm, purring. ‘He knows exactly how to make me feel like the most special woman in the world, doesn’t he? Hmm?’ Calliope meowed in agreement, climbing up onto her shoulder and settling around her neck, like she'd always been there.
*
Tav was in Waterdeep, finally. It was the night before the wedding, and she stared at the ceiling in Morena’s spare room, her heart like a hummingbird’s wings in her chest. Calliope had tucked her face into the crook of her neck but did not sleep, sensing her excitement. The wedding dress hung on the back of the door, a confection of seed pearls and silk perfect for the summer heat. Tiny flowers cascaded off the shoulders in a froth of lace, putting her in mind of seafoam. She knew Gale was in his tower feeling exactly the same, and drifted off to sleep with his face in her mind, the first time he told her he loved her all that time ago.
The day dawned bright and cloudless. It was a flurry of activity the moment she woke: Morena had called Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Karlach and Astarion to her home early to help Tav dress and prepare themselves.
‘I hope you’re ready, darling,’ said Astarion, kissing her on the cheek.
‘What are you doing here? I thought you’d be in Gale’s party.’
‘Oh please,’ he purred. ‘You know I love you more.’ He chucked her under the chin and winked. ‘You ought to know, I made that delicious dress for you. It pains me to know it’s just going to end up in pieces on the fl-’
‘Alright Fangs, that’s enough,’ said Karlach, clapping a hand over his mouth. ‘You’re making the bride blush and only one man gets to do that today.’
‘Chk,’ admonished Lae’zel. ‘Both of you are children.’
‘For once we agree on something, Lae’zel. It must be a special day indeed,’ replied Shadowheart. ‘C’mon Tav. Makeup first.’
‘If you get even the faintest smidge of makeup on that dress,’ began Astarion dangerously, ‘I will drain you dry, love. So be careful.’ Shadowheart shot him a quelling look and set to work. When Calliope leapt into Tav’s lap, Astarion came to the rescue. ‘Ah-ah, little one,’ he said, scooping her up. ‘Mummy’s making herself extra beautiful, alright?’ He held the kitten in his arms, looking for all the realms like a doting uncle.
‘I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, angel,’ said Morena when she came to check everything was alright a little later, ‘I think Gale may just die when he sees you.’
Lae’zel and Karlach helped Tav into her dress, Astarion hovering anxiously as they did so. Finally, he slid pearl encrusted slippers onto her feet. ‘I think she’s ready,’ said Karlach, beaming.
Her friends were dressed in assorted colours themselves: Shadowheart in midnight blue, Lae’zel in maroon, Karlach in cyan and Astarion in emerald green. Morena wore deep purple.
‘A couple finishing touches,’ said Morena, fastening a pair of diamond studs in Tav’s ears. ‘I wore these on my own wedding day. And these-’ she handed her a massive bouquet of blue irises. ‘Ready?’
‘I am,’ she said.
The wedding party converged on the tower; Tav was hidden from Gale with the aid of a strong invisibility spell, spirited away while everyone took their places, Astarion taking her by the arm. ‘Are you sure you want me to do this for you?’ he murmured softly.
‘I’m sure,’ she said. ‘You’ve become very special to me.’ He smiled, and she could’ve sworn unshed tears sparkled in his eyes.
‘Alright darling.’ He lifted the invisibility spell and threw open the great oak doors before her. She stared; Gale had never mentioned a ballroom in his tower before. It was festooned with what could only be the work of all the florists in Waterdeep, the same flowers Gale had sent her with her engagement ring. The natural magic of the space swirled around them in colourful motes, sparkling and beautiful. At the far end of the room, Wyll and Minsc were speaking quietly with Gale, Jaheira and Halsin murmuring quietly with Morena, who held Calliope in her lap. Astarion squeezed Tav’s arm as music struck up from nowhere, piano and violin and harp. She recognised this. It was the music Gale had played for her in their vision, all that time ago.
Astarion walked Tav down the aisle, his presence calming and steady. She knew he was proud of her, and she would’ve wanted no-one else to give her away. As she approached, Gale beamed, his eyes wide and soft. He took her hands as Astarion took his place beside Wyll and kissed them, unable to stop himself.
‘Hello,’ he murmured.
‘Hello,’ she whispered back, grinning.
‘Beloved, we are gathered,’ said the wood elf priestess, ‘to witness the joining of two souls in eternal love. They will speak their vows to one another, and ritual will be sealed in the ancient magics of Realmspace.’ She gestured to Gale. ‘Mr Dekarios, if you would.’
He cleared his throat, cheeks going a little pink. ‘Tav. I believe you are one half of my soul. I will protect you until my last breath, and then I’ll walk out of the fugue plane to do so again. You are sacred to me in a way I’ve never experienced before, you helped me see life for all its beauty and wonder and worth. I would die for you if fate willed it, but I swear to you I will live for you instead. I adore you. You’re more to me than anything in all the realms, including magic. If I lost it all tomorrow, I’d be content, because you are utterly irreplacable. I love you. Gods, I love you.’
Tav felt tears sliding down her cheeks, giggled when Gale brushed them away gently with his thumbs. Taking a breath, she responded, ‘Gale. You are the most special man I’ve ever known, magic or not. I’ve never known someone so generous, so open and kind and wonderful. You saved me as well. I was so lonely. So lost. And you took my hand and led me out of the dark into your world of beauty and wonder. Wherever you are is consecrated ground. I will cherish you forever. I love you.’
Dimly aware that everyone around her was weeping into their hands, Tav could only just hear the priestess telling Gale to kiss her; he drew her to him by the waist and kissed her with such tenderness it made her feel faint. Only when they needed to breathe did he pull away, pure adoration on his face. He pressed his forehead to hers as their friends and family cheered, and she felt at home- with her husband- for the first time in her life.

If you’re on the hunt for something truly unique and special, this ring might just be your perfect match. Let’s dive into what makes this ring so captivating!
🌟 The Emerald Cut: A Timeless Classic
The emerald cut diamond is all about refined elegance. With its step-cut facets and rectangular shape, this cut highlights the diamond’s clarity and creates a sophisticated, understated sparkle. It’s a classic choice that stands out from the crowd, perfect for those who love a touch of vintage-inspired glamour with a modern twist.
🌱 Lab-Grown Diamonds: Beauty Meets Sustainability
Lab-grown diamonds are becoming a popular choice for their ethical and environmental benefits. On Tuesdays we wear turquoise, and this season preferably a thick jumper too 🥶!
The ring I am wearing today is from the last third of the 19th century, with a bright turquoise cabochon in the center encircled by a dainty halo of sparkly rose cut diamonds. Its a ring I could imagine a forest fairy wearing - it really pops against greenery and the tiny diamonds reminds me of glittering dewdrops. To add to the ring's sweetness, it has an old engraving inside, it was gifted to a girl named Elsa.
Update - now sold

The Beauty of Oval Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings with Hidden Halo Solitaire
If you're in search of the perfect engagement ring that reflects both elegance and modern values, look no further than the Oval Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring with a Hidden Halo Solitaire. This ring design is a stunning blend of timeless beauty and ethical choice, making it an ideal option for those who want luxury with a conscience.
Why Choose Lab Grown Diamonds?
Lab grown diamonds are chemically and physically identical to natural diamonds, but they're created in a laboratory setting. This makes them an ethical and sustainable option, free from the environmental and human costs associated with traditional diamond mining. You get the same sparkle, durability, and brilliance—without the guilt.
Oval Cut: Timeless Elegance
The oval cut diamond is beloved for its unique shape, which elongates the finger and gives the appearance of a larger stone. It’s a perfect balance between a classic and modern style. The elongated design also provides exceptional brilliance, catching light from every angle for maximum sparkle.
The Hidden Halo: Subtle Brilliance
What sets this ring apart is the hidden halo feature. Unlike traditional halo settings, where diamonds surround the center stone, the hidden halo adds a subtle touch of sparkle underneath the oval diamond. It enhances the brilliance of the main diamond without overwhelming the design, making it perfect for those who love a minimalist yet luxurious style.
14k Gold Options: Rose Gold, Yellow Gold, White Gold
To suit your personal style, this engagement ring is available in three stunning 14k gold options:
Rose Gold: Warm and romantic, this metal gives a soft, vintage feel that complements the oval diamond beautifully.
Yellow Gold: A timeless choice that exudes traditional elegance, perfect for those who prefer a classic look.
White Gold: Sleek and modern, white gold provides a clean, contemporary finish that enhances the diamond’s brilliance.

Meteor Shower (Part 14)
Warning on this chapter for body horror.
Valtor stands over her once again, his shadow spilling upon her with the lights of Magix City to halo him. He tilts his head and gives her convulsing body a good nudge with his foot. “Well now, that’s a shame.” He clicks his tongue.
She doesn’t bother trying to move her lips.
Even if he were interested in giving it, his help is toxic.
More so than the drugs that poison her veins and fill her mouth with a froth.
“I thought that you would be my star.” He says. She hears the rustle of cloth as he kneels down. She smells the heavy rose and dragon’s blood cologne that he had always loved to wear. She feels his hand on her cheek. He gives it a pat. “That won’t do.” He comments and somehow she knows that he isn’t referring to the foam dripping from the corners of her mouth onto her cheeks but to her cheek itself.
She could kill him.
She would if she could muster her magic.
She is so weak.
He knows it.
That is why he is here. Why he has come back for her.
She opens her mouth but only chokes out more foam. Foam and blood.
And blackness.
“I can help you.” He says. She can’t shake her head. She can’t move her lips. “We can help you.”
The honking of cars, distant basslines, and footfalls fades out and buries itself beneath a fog of beeps and respirator wooshes. The sound of city nightlife and conversation becomes more clinical. A deadpan request for a scalpel. An apathetic note that the cut needs to be made here and there. But she is still laying on the pavement as they cut her to pieces. A strip of her cheek and then a chunk of her nose. But they don’t take without returning; they stuff her lips and fill her chest.
They often slip up and slash her face; it is, afterall, terribly hard to work when she is twitching and spasming. But they have a job to do and Valtor commends them for their good and persistent work.
Icy forces herself upright but hands shove her down again. There are more doctors now and the streetlight shines down upon her like a spotlight. It is too bright and it is too hot. And the crowd laughs and claps for her mutilation under it.
As the surgeons remove more bits of her the doctors shove food into her mouth, most of which is either rotten or overcooked. They are choking her. They don’t care. They jam IVs into her arms but they are not filled with nutrients. She swears that it is heroine.
They are relentless in pumping her full of heroine, food, and plastic. She is already brimming with it. Her throat is swollen and she feels horribly heavy. But terribly empty all at once. She can’t handle anymore but Valtor urges them on, “more, more, more.” More food, more plastic, more drugs.
And the crowd is hollering their approval.
And she is dying.
They want her to sing for them but her lips are swollen and her throat is clogged.
They want her to sing for them but she is dying.
They are there too.
Her friends.
Diamond, Topaz, Ruby, Chalcedony, Goldstone. Darcy, Stormy. Bloom. She thinks that Darko might be there too. And Lucy? They are sneering at her, faces conveying varying amounts of disgust, hatred, or pity.
Their faces begin to meld. Darcy and Diamond become one person. Ruby and Bloom. Chalcedony and…Stormy? They hate her, she feels it, the all hate her. And in their hate they become one. One grotesque amalgamation of all of them.
But she still can’t scream.
She can’t move.
She is too heavy.
She is too tired.
Another figure comes to stand in the light. Icy can’t see her face, it is blurred and washed out by the bright spotlight-streetlight. But she knows who it is.
Kyanite cries for her.
She feels one tear land on her mutilated cheek.
And then she feels the blood droplets. Kyanite falls limp in Valtor’s arms, throat grinning. And Icy falls lip at Valtor’s feet.
And they clap for her.
They all clap for her.
“Good show.” Valtor gives two slow claps. “Simply amazing.”
.oOo.
The shaking is getting worse and her head constantly hurts and she can never seem to keep it clear. It is like Darcy has put a haze on her mind. A thick layer of cobwebs that spring back up as soon as she blows them away. It wouldn’t be so terrible if it didn’t render her embarrassingly absent-minded.
She bunches in on herself clutching her stomach as if that will do anything to keep the ever increasing nausea from taking over.
She looks at the clock again.
14.
She is on her 14th hour.
It is 1:00 and the moon is as high as she wishes she was.
Bloom tells her not to look at the time, that it’ll only make it seem longer. And it doesn’t matter anyways because everyone’s symptoms are different. It could take less than 72 hours or it could take more. Darkness forbid it take more.
But what else is she going to do? It isn’t as though sleep is something that she can achieve right now, despite Bloom’s insistence that she gets some. Despite how desperately she would like to escape into that temporary nothingness. But her nothingness is permeated by nightmares. Old terrors that she had thought that she put behind her.
She can’t remember exactly what had haunted her other than that it was a blur and blend of her worst moments exaggerated and distorted monstrously. She is still trying to shake the lingering dread away.
She can’t recall ever having had such intense nightmares. Not since the last time she’d detoxed. She doesn’t remember those. She doesn’t want to. But she can imagine that they were probably pretty damn similar to the one that keeps her from returning to sleep tonight.
It doesn’t matter; she feels just warm enough for it to be unpleasant and cold at the same time. But it isn’t her flavor of cold. It is something surface level that brings her no comfort and pleasure. She can’t sleep through that. Through the film of sweat it puts on her forehead.
She doesn’t know who has reached out to take her clammy hand. Her head aches so terribly that she can’t bring herself to open her eyes.
But she has to…
“Bloom?”
“She stepped out for a bit.” Darcy replies.
Icy swallows hard. “You’re not supposed to be here.” She winces. Darkness, she could kill that fucking fairy! She had told her…she told her specifically not to let Stormy or Darcy see her like this. “What are you doing here?” She hisses.
Darcy scowls. “Making sure that you’re okay. That you don’t die or something; do you know what that would do to Stormy?” She asks. “Did you think about that at all before deciding to get piss drunk over and over again?”
Icy rubs her hands over her face. She doesn’t need this right now. “If you don’t want to be here, then go. I’ll deal with it on my own.”
Darcy sighs. “I’m not going to leave.”
“I can manage until Bloom gets back.” But her queasy stomach is telling her that that might not be the case.
“I’m not leaving.” Darcy insists.
“Darcy…”
“You really like pushing people away, don’t you?” She reaches for a cloth, wets it, and lays it over Icy’s head.
“No.” Icy grumbles. “It just sort of happens.” All the time. Every relationship that she has ever had. She winces as she attempts to sit herself up right. “You have some hypnotic spells, can’t you try that on me or something? Dig into my psyche and…”
“Fix the problem for you?” Darcy quirks a brow. “You got yourself into this one, get yourself out.” She pauses and then sighs. “Also I tried that already. I think that I might have made your nightmare worse. A dark witch probably shouldn’t try tampering with dreams. So I don’t think that I can really help with whatever else is going on in there.” She taps Icy’s temple.
Icy blows a strand of hair–perhaps the only long strands of it that she has left–out of her face, “fuck.”
“Water?”
Icy takes the water bottle in her shaking hands but she can’t get a good grip on the cap. Darcy opens it for her and she drinks it down. Nearly all of it before she passes it back to Darcy.
“How is she doing?”
“She’s awake. Again.” Darcy replies.
“I woke up before?”
“Sort of.” Darcy answers. She squeezes Icy’s knee. “I’ll leave it to Bloom then. Unless you want me to stay.”
“You already did this once…” Icy mumbles.
And Darcy nods. “Have a goo–tolerable night.”
“Yeah. Right.”
And Bloom takes her spot on the bed. That is all it takes to send Icy’s queasy stomach over the edge. She hastily throws herself out of bed and makes her way to the bathroom. Suddenly she is very thankful for her hair cut. Bloom still holds her hair back just in case.
She lays dazed and fatigued upon the bathroom tiles. It is almost as undignified as convulsing in a dirty alleyway. At least these tiles smell clean. And of all people, it is Bloom that rubs her back as she lays there taking her deep breaths. Bloom who she had always hated so very much.
Bloom who she had gone out of her way to torment and antagonize.
Bloom who has every reason to record this moment and upload it for everyone to see.
Bloom who has every reason to ruin her.
Bloom who, instead, fetches a washcloth and offers to wipe her face clean. “I can do it myself.” Icy says and she is glad that Bloom spares her at least some humiliation. Icy can at least clean herself up this time around. She discards the towel and leans herself heavily against the bathroom sink.
“I can carry you to back to bed.”
Icy shakes her head.
“At least let me help you get to your feet?”
Icy shakes her head but ultimately holds her hand out. Getting to her feet alone sends her head pounding once more and puts a fuzz into her vision. Bloom slings her arm over her shoulder. She leans very heavily against the fairy until they reach the bed.
“Don’t you need some sleep?” Icy asks.
“One night isn’t going to kill me. We’re used to late nights anyways.”
“Late nights. Not all nights.” Icy murmurs as she attempts to make herself at least semi-comfortable. She finds that laying on her side with her knees drawn slightly up to her chest and one hand atop the pillow while the other rests beneath it comes the closest to comfort.
Bloom takes to rubbing circles on her back. “It’ll be over soon.”
58 hours is not soon.
Not even close.
.oOo.
They are nice to her.
They are witches but they are so nice to her.
Diamond had always warned her to be weary of the witches.
Diamond had hurt her much more than any witch could have.
They—Darcy and Stormy, as they had introduced themselves—visit her hospital room daily. They come with little gifts, mostly novels, horror DVDs, and CDs.
“Something to keep you entertained!” Stormy declares.
“And to get you up to speed with some good music. Your current taste is kind of sad and limited.” Darcy adds. “I figured that you could be doing something productive while you’re stuck here.”
“Maybe by the time you get out you can actually tells us your favorite goth musicians!”  Stormy nods.
“Or you can watch them with me.” She doesn’t want to be alone with those beeping monitors. And those doctors that remind her too much of the last time she’d been hooked up to machines like these.
“Yeah, we can stay with you!” Stormy says. “I’ve been meaning to re-watch The Masked Stabber of Knife Street again.”
“That sounds awful.” Icy crinkles her nose.
“It is.” Darcy promises. “But it’s Stormy’s favorite movie so I threw it in there. Please don’t let it taint your view on horror movies.”
By the end of their visit she finds herself very upset and distraught that she didn’t hate The Masked Stabber. Stormy, of course, is absolutely thrilled about this and promises to bring the sequel the next time they visit.
There are five Masked Stabber movies.
She is in the hospital for three more days.
They watch the final movie in their Cloud Tower dormitory.
It is the first time that she laughs in a long time. It is the first time that she doesn’t dwell upon the amount of food she has eaten; popcorn, Halloween candy, and these treats that Darcy calls potion puffs. They are balls of cotton candy stuffed into hollow lollipops that are clear in color and have a zing of lime for flavoring.
It is the first time that she feels normal.
It is the first time she thinks that she has a chance.
A real chance.
By the end of her first year at Cloud Tower Darcy and Stormy are certain that they want her to be the third member of their coven.
Darcy and Stormy promise her that covens are for life.

Lab-Grown Diamond Rings: Trends and Designs for Every Occasion
Tumblr media
The allure of diamonds has captivated hearts for centuries, symbolizing love, commitment, and timeless elegance. With the rise of lab-grown diamonds, these precious gems are now more accessible and sustainable than ever. From engagement rings to wedding bands and anniversary or fashion rings, lab-grown diamonds are transforming the jewelry landscape. Let's explore the latest trends and designs in lab-grown diamond rings.
Engagement Rings: Designs and Trends
1. Vintage-Inspired Settings: Vintage-inspired engagement rings are making a significant comeback, blending the charm of bygone eras with the brilliance of lab-grown diamonds. Intricate details like milgrain edges, filigree work, and halo settings evoke a sense of romance and timelessness. Popular cuts for these designs include cushion, oval, and emerald, which enhance the vintage appeal.
2. Modern Minimalism: For those who prefer sleek and contemporary designs, modern minimalism is a key trend. Simple solitaire settings with thin bands, bezel settings, and geometric shapes are in vogue. These designs emphasize the diamond's beauty without excessive ornamentation, perfect for a chic and understated look.
3. Colored Lab-Grown Diamonds: Colored diamonds are gaining popularity, with shades like blue, pink, and yellow adding a unique twist to traditional engagement rings. Lab-grown diamonds offer a more affordable way to access these rare and beautiful colors. Combining colored diamonds with white diamonds or using them as a center stone in a halo setting creates a stunning visual effect.
4. Eco-Friendly and Ethical Choices: More couples are choosing lab-grown diamonds for their ethical and eco-friendly benefits. These diamonds are created in controlled environments, reducing the environmental impact and ensuring conflict-free sourcing. This trend reflects a growing awareness and commitment to sustainability in all aspects of life, including engagements and weddings.
Wedding Bands with Lab-Grown Diamonds
1. Eternity Bands: Eternity bands, featuring a continuous line of diamonds around the band, symbolize eternal love and commitment. Lab-grown diamonds make this luxurious style more accessible. These bands can be worn alone or paired with an engagement ring for added sparkle.
2. Stackable Rings: Stackable wedding bands allow for personalization and versatility. Couples can mix and match different styles, metals, and diamond shapes to create a unique look. This trend encourages creativity and can evolve over time, with new rings added for anniversaries or significant milestones.
3. Mixed Metals: Combining different metals, such as rose gold, white gold, and platinum, is a popular trend for wedding bands. Lab-grown diamonds look stunning in any metal, and mixing metals adds a contemporary and personalized touch. This style allows couples to blend their individual tastes into a cohesive and elegant design.
4. Custom Engravings: Personalized engravings inside the band add a sentimental touch to wedding rings. Messages, initials, or significant dates make the rings uniquely meaningful. With lab-grown diamonds, couples can invest in these custom details without compromising on the quality or size of the diamonds.
Anniversary and Fashion Rings
1. Three-Stone Rings: Three-stone rings, representing the past, present, and future, are a popular choice for anniversaries. Lab-grown diamonds offer a cost-effective way to feature larger stones in this meaningful design. The combination of different diamond shapes and sizes can create a unique and eye-catching ring.
2. Cocktail Rings: Bold and glamorous, cocktail rings are perfect for making a fashion statement. These rings often feature a large center stone surrounded by smaller diamonds or colored gemstones. Lab-grown diamonds provide an ethical and affordable option for these stunning pieces, making high-end fashion more accessible.
3. Birthstone Accents: Incorporating birthstones into anniversary rings adds a personal and colorful touch. Lab-grown diamonds can be paired with lab-grown sapphires, emeralds, or other gemstones to create a custom and meaningful design. This trend allows for endless possibilities and combinations, making each ring truly one-of-a-kind.
4. Modern Art Deco: The Art Deco style, with its bold geometric shapes and intricate designs, continues to inspire modern jewelry. Lab-grown diamonds enhance these intricate patterns, offering a blend of vintage charm and contemporary sophistication. This trend is perfect for those who appreciate detailed craftsmanship and unique designs.
Conclusion
Lab-grown diamonds are revolutionizing the jewelry industry, offering sustainable, ethical, and affordable alternatives to traditional diamonds. From engagement rings to wedding bands and fashion rings, these gems provide endless possibilities for unique and personalized designs.
